Preview: One-Day Open Series at Pinehurst No. 9

On Sunday, May 17, the 2015 Peggy Kirk Bell Girls’ Golf Tour plays the One-Day Open Series at Pinehurst Resort No. 9. The course, host of the U.S. Girls’ Junior Championship Sectional Qualifier in June, is a beautiful course for the second One-Day Open Series tournament of the season. One-day tournaments are designed for golfers of all skill levels, but are a great place for development golfers to “get in to the swing of things” playing tournament golf. The goal of One-Day Open Series events is to provide a fun and friendly tournament on a premium golf course. The event features a field 66 players from the PKB Girls’ Golf Tour, the nation’s largest “girls’ only” junior tour with over 425 members in 2014 and over 350 girls playing in or committed to collegiate golf.

The Prep Series field features 30 golfers, highlighted by nine of the top-60 players on the PKBGT Performance Index, including: Killian Casson (Greenville, NC 2015) ranked 16th, Hailey Freedman (Chapel Hill, NC 2018) ranked 34th, Ashley Czarnecki (Greenville, SC 2016) ranked 46th, Kathleen Sumner (Charleston, SC 2017) ranked 48th, Kayla Ward (Raleigh, NC 2018) ranked 51st, Elizabeth Nguyen (Pinehurst, NC 2017) ranked 55th, Moon Cheong (Charlotte, NC 2017) ranked 56th, Kendall Dobbins (Summerfield, NC 2016) ranked 57th, and Meghan Symonds (Cary, NC 2015) ranked 58th.

The Futures Series field features 36 golfers, highlighted by some standout players on the 2015 PKBGT Order of Merit lists, including: Kaley Barts (Apex, NC 2016), Bailey Davis (White Plains, MD 2021), Sarah Funderburg (Wilmington, NC 2018), Peyton Gillespie (Greenville, SC 2019), Michelle Harn (Charlotte, NC 2019), Ashley Kim (Chapel Hill, NC 2017), Amanda Sambach (Davidson, NC 2021), Katherine Schuster (Kill Devil Hills, NC 2021), Kelley Topiwala (Matthews, NC 2020), and Muskan Uppal (Cornelius, NC 2019).

The One-Day Open Series at Pinehurst Resort No. 9 brings together players from Pennsylvania, North Carolina, South Carolina, and Virginia. It should be a great event!

The Peggy Kirk Bell Girls’ Golf Tour is an initiative of the Triad Youth Golf Foundation, a 501(c)3 non-profit foundation aimed at increasing learning and playing opportunities for youth golfers.
