Recap: Shoomee wins Wolfpack Classic

On Sunday, April 6, the 2014 Peggy Kirk Bell Girls’ Golf Tour concluded the Wolfpack Classic at Lonnie Poole Golf Course at NC State. Lonnie Poole, home to the North Carolina State University men’s and women’s golf teams proved a demanding course for this two-day tournament. The event featured a field of 80 players from the PKB Girls’ Golf Tour, the nation’s largest “girls’ only” junior tour with over 375 members in 2013 and 262 girls playing in or committed to collegiate golf.

In the Bell Division, Siranon Shoomee (Sanford, NC 2016) shot one over par with a score of 73 to placed first with a two-day total of 141. Sarah Spicer (Bahama, NC 2016) shot two over par with a score of 74 to placed second with a two-day total of 149 and Anna Redding (Concord, NC 2015) shot five over par with a score of 77 to placed third with a two-day total of 151.

In the Futures Division, Diana Cristina Domenech (Richmond, VA 2018) shot one under par with a score of 71 to placed first with a two-day total of 149. In addition to her victory today, Domenech had a hole-in-one on the 17th hole, a 97 yard par 3. This is the 11th hole-in-one in PKB Tour history. Mackenzie Battle (Aberdeen, NC 2018) shot nine over par with a score of 81 to placed second with a two-day total of 158 and Katharina Floyd (Chapel Hill, NC 2020) shot seven over par with a score of 79 to placed third with a two-day total of 159.

With their victory’s, Shoomee and Domenech both received class A exemptions into the Tournament of Champions this fall. With their runner-up finishes, Spicer and Battle both received class C exemptions into the Tournament of Champions. Also, this weekend’s event was a qualifier for the Callaway Junior World Golf Championship in San Diego, CA. Floyd had the lowest score for the 11 and 12 year old playing in the Futures Division, Holly McCann (Raleigh, NC 2019) had the lowest score for the 13 to 14 year old in the Bell Division, and Shoomee had the lowest score for the 15 to 17 year old in the Bell Division, so all three received exemptions into the event.
