On Sunday, March 30, the 2014 Peggy Kirk Bell Girls’ Golf Tour concluded the Boar’s Head Inn Classic at Birdwood Golf Course at UVA. Birdwood, home to the University of Virginia men’s and women’s golf teams was an excellent course for this two-day tournament. The weather was grueling this weekend with gusting winds, rain, and cold temperatures, but despite the less than ideal conditions, the girls played hard and finished strong. The event featured a field of 36 players from the PKB Girls’ Golf Tour, the nation’s largest “girls’ only” junior tour with over 375 members in 2013 and 262 girls playing in or committed to collegiate golf.
In the Bell Division, Bryana Nguyen (Columbia, MD 2014) six over par with a score of 78 to place first with a two-day total is 154. Adeena Shears (Elizabeth, WV 2016) shot eight over par with a score of 80 and won a scorecard playoff to place second with a two-day total is 157 and Delaney Shah (North Potomac, MD 2016) shot 12 over par with a score of 84 to place third with a two-day total is 157.
In the Futures Division, Sirena Walsh (Chantilly, VA 2016) shot 13 over par with a score of 85 to place first with a two-day total is 169. Diana Cristina Domenech (Richmond, VA 2018) shot 15 over par with a score of 87 to place second with a two-day total is 172 and Jaden Harman (Grottoes, VA 2019) shot 18 over par with a score of 90 to place third with a two-day total is 180.
PKBGT would like to congratulate Sarah Towne (Chapel Hill, NC 2015) on her hole-in-one today on hole #8, a 134 yard par 3. This is the 10th hole-in-one in PKB Tour history.
With their victory’s, Nguyen and Walsh both received class A exemptions into the Tournament of Champions this fall. With their runner-up finishes, Shears, Shah, and Domenech both received class C exemptions into the Tournament of Champions.
PKBGT returns to action next weekend with the Wolfpack Classic @ Lonnie Poole Golf Course at NC State in Raleigh, NC. The tournament is a qualifier for the Callaway Junior World Golf Championship in San Diego, CA. The event brings together players from Maryland, North Carolina, Ohio, Pennsylvania, South Carolina, and Virginia.
The Peggy Kirk Bell Girls’ Golf Tour is an initiative of the Triad Youth Golf Foundation, a 501(c)3 non-profit foundation aimed at increasing learning and playing opportunities for youth golfers.
