Update: Castle leads at Palmetto Classic

On Saturday, March 15, the Peggy Kirk Bell Girls’ Golf Tour played the first round of the Palmetto Classic at Cobblestone Park Golf Club. Cobblestone, home of the University of South Carolina-Columbia Gamecocks golf teams, is a beautiful course for this two-day tournament. The event features a field of 33 players from the PKB Girls’ Golf Tour, the nation’s largest “girls’ only” junior tour with over 375 members in 2013 and 262 girls playing in or committed to collegiate golf.

In the Bell Division, after round one, Jensen Castle (West Columbia, SC 2019) is leading the field by one stroke at five over par with a score of 76. Not far behind Castle is Ann Elizabeth Gore (Lexington, SC 2015) at six over par with a score of 77. There is a three-way tie for third place between Chandler Case (Rock Hill, SC 2014), Savanah Goodman (Easley, SC 2016), and Makalyn Poole (Williamston, SC 2015) who all shot seven over par each with scores of 78.

In the Futures Division, after round one, Baylee Evans (Lancaster, SC 2018) is leading the field by four strokes at five over par with a score of 76. Not far behind Evans is Jalen Castle (West Columbia, SC 2020) at nine over par with a score of 80 and Madison Branum (Lexington, SC 2018) at 11 over par with a score of 82.

Weather for Sunday’s round looks rainy with temperatures in the high 50s and low 60s. Despite the less than ideal forecast, it should be a exciting conclusion to the third event of March Mania!
