Preview: Palmetto Classic at USC

On Saturday-Sunday, March 15-16, the 2014 Peggy Kirk Bell Girls’ Golf Tour plays the Palmetto Classic at Cobblestone Park Golf Club. Cobblestone, home of the University of South Carolina-Columbia Gamecocks golf teams, is a beautiful course for this two-day tournament. The event features a field of 36 players from the PKB Girls’ Golf Tour, the nation’s largest “girls’ only” junior tour with over 375 members in 2013 and 262 girls playing in or committed to collegiate golf.

The Bell Division field features 20 golfers, including six of the top-100 players on the PKBGT Performance Index: Payton Schanen (Milton, GA 2015) ranked 5th, Savanah Goodman (Easley, SC 2016) ranked 42nd, Ashley Sloup (Southport, NC 2014) ranked 56th, Juliana Sebastian (Columbia, SC 2014) ranked 66th, Kasidy Beckel (Okatie, SC 2015) ranked 80th, and Kate Harper (Isle of Palms, SC 2016) ranked 84th.

The Futures Division field features 16 golfers, highlighted by four of the top-15 players on the 2014 PKBGT Order of Merit lists, including: Katharina Floyd (Chapel Hill, NC 2020) in 4th position, Ciaran Carlile (Evans, GA 2015) in 6th position, Madison Branum (Lexington, SC 2018) in 9th position, and Ellis Hunter (Greensboro, NC 2016) in 11th position.

The Palmetto Classic brings together players from event brings together players from Georgia, North Carolina, South Carolina, Virginia, and West Virginia. It should be a great tournament!

The Peggy Kirk Bell Girls’ Golf Tour is an initiative of the Triad Youth Golf Foundation, a 501(c)3 non-profit foundation aimed at increasing learning and playing opportunities for youth golfers. Based out of Greensboro, North Carolina, the PKBGT offers affordable, high-quality nationally ranked girls’ golf tournaments designed to prepare junior girls’ golfers for high school and collegiate golf.
