Recap: Schanen wins SC University Classic at Clemson

On Sunday, March 2, the 2014 Peggy Kirk Bell Girls’ Golf Tour concluded the SC University Classic at The Walker Course at Clemson University. The Walker Course, home of the Clemson University Tigers golf teams, was a great course for this two-day tournament. The event featured a field of 51 players from the PKB Girls’ Golf Tour, the nation’s largest “girls’ only” junior tour with over 375 members in 2013 and 262 girls playing in or committed to collegiate golf.

In the Bell Division, Payton Schanen (Milton, GA 2015) shot four over par par with a score of 76 to place first with a two-day total of 148. Victoria Huskey (Greenville, SC 2016) shot five over par with a score of 77 to place second with a two-day total of 154 and Jaelyn Tindal (Rock Hill, SC 2015) shot five over par with a score of 77 to place third with a two-day total of 155.

In the Futures Division, Alyssa Montgomery (Knoxville, TN 2019) shot seven over par with a score of 79 and won a one-hole sudden death playoff to place first with a two-day total of 158. Peyton Gillespie (Greenville, SC 2019) shot 10 over par with a score of 82 to place second with a two-day total of 158 and Katharina Floyd (Chapel Hill, NC 2020) shot nine over par with a score of 81 and won a scorecard playoff to place third with a two-day total of 161. Also exciting news, Floyd had double eagle on hole #1, a 440 yard par 5!

With their victory’s, Schanen and Montgomery both received class A exemptions into the Tournament of Champions this fall. With their runner-up finishes, Huskey and Gillespie both received class B exemptions into the Tournament of Champions.

PKBGT returns to action next weekend with the NC University Classic @ UNC Finley Golf Course in Chapel Hill, NC. The event brings together players from Illinois, Maryland, North Carolina, Ohio, Pennsylvania, South Carolina, Virginia, West Virginia, and Ontario, Canada.
