On Saturday, September 20, the 2014 Peggy Kirk Bell Girls’ Golf Tour played the first round of the TOURNAMENT OF CHAMPIONS at Dolphin Head Golf Club. Although the threat for thunderstorms was imminent throughout the round, the girls were able to finish the round only having to deal with a light shower. The course is a Gary Player design and is a favorite among the Island courses. The event features a field 17 players from the PKB Girls’ Golf Tour, the nation’s largest “girls’ only” junior tour with over 375 members in 2013 and 262 girls playing in or committed to collegiate golf.
In the Bell Division, after round one, Caroline Curtis (Glen Allen, VA 2019) and Delaney Shah (North Potomac, MD 2016) are tied for first at two over par with a score of 74. Not far behind the leaders is Adeena Shears (Elizabeth, WV 2016) at four over par with a score of 76 and
Caroline Cahill (Wilmington, NC 2017) at five over par with a score of 77.
In the Futures Division, after round one, Rebecca DiNunzio (Norfolk, VA 2019) is leading the field by five strokes at one over par with a score of 73. Not far behind DiNunzio is Katharina Floyd (Chapel Hill, NC 2020) and Sirena Walsh (Chantilly, VA 2016) are tied for second at six over par each with a scores of 78.
Weather for Sunday’s round looks fantastic, with partly cloudy skies with temperatures in the mid 80s. It should be a great day to conclude the TOURNAMENT OF CHAMPIONS.
