Recap: Donovan wins PKB Foundation Classic

On Sunday, February 2, the 2014 Peggy Kirk Bell Girls’ Golf Tour played the PKB Foundation Classic @ Mid Pines Inn & GC. Due to snow on the course on Saturday, the tournament was shortened to a one-day event on Sunday. Mid Pines, a classic Donald Ross designed course in the heart of the Sandhills of North Carolina, was named “Best U.S Restoration of the Year” in 2013 by Golf Magazine. The event features a field of 44 players from the PKB Girls’ Golf Tour, the nation’s largest “girls’ only” junior tour with over 375 members in 2013 and 262 girls playing in or committed to collegiate golf.

In the Bell Division, Nicolette Donovan (Ponte Vedra Beach, FL 2015) shot three over par with a score of 75 to place first. Savanah Goodman (Easley, SC 2016) shot six over par with a score of 78 to place second and Grace Massengill (Hickory, NC 2016) shot seven over par with a score of 79 to place third.

In the Futures Division, Katharina Floyd (Chapel Hill, NC 2020) shot six over par with a score of 78 to place first. Mackenzie Battle (Aberdeen, NC 2018) shot 10 over par with a score of 82 and won a scorecard-playoff to place second and Jillian Preisach (Fuquay Varina, NC 2019) shot 10 over par with a score of 82 to place third.

With their victory’s, Donovan and Floyd both received class A exemptions into the Tournament of Champions this fall. With their runner-up finishes, Goodman and Battle both received class B exemptions into the Tournament of Champions.

PKBGT returns to action next weekend on Saturday-Sunday, February 8-9 with the Chanticleer Classic @ The Hackler Course at Coastal Carolina University. The tournament brings together players from Georgia, North Carolina, Ohio, Pennsylvania, South Carolina, and Virginia. It should be a great tournament.
