On Thursday, July 18, the 2014 Peggy Kirk Bell Girls’ Golf Tour played the One-Day Open Series at Rocky River Golf Club. One-day tournaments are designed for golfers of all skill levels, but are a great place for development golfers to “get in to the swing of things” playing tournament golf. The goal of One-Day Open Series events is to provide a fun and friendly tournament on a premium golf course. The event featured a field of 32 players from the PKB Girls’ Golf Tour, the nation’s largest “girls’ only” junior tour with over 375 members in 2013 and 262 girls playing in or committed to collegiate golf.
In the Bell Division-Prep Series, Samantha Vodry (Mooresville, NC 2016) shot 11 over par with a score of 83 to place first. Hailey Joy (Reidsville, NC 2018) shot 12 over par with a score of 84 and won a scorecard playoff to place second and Keri Kenkel (Charlotte, NC 2017) shot 12 over par with a score of 84 to place third.
In the Futures Division, Emma Reid (Fletcher, NC 2018) shot eight over par with a score of 80 to place first. Parker Melting (Mint Hill, NC 2018) shot 10 over par with a score of 82 and won a scorecard playoff to place second and Mary Slade White (Winston-Salem, NC 2019) shot 10 over par with a score of 82 to place third.
With their victories, Vodry and Reid received a class A exemptions into the Tournament of Champions this fall. PKBGT returns to action on Friday, July 18 with the One-Day Open Series @ Bermuda Run CC (West Course) in Bermuda Run, NC. The event brings together players from North Carolina, South Carolina, and Virginia.
