On Sunday, June 29, the 2014 Peggy Kirk Bell Girls’ Golf Tour played the One-Day Open Series at Sapona Ridge Country Club. One-day tournaments are designed for golfers of all skill levels, but are a great place for development golfers to “get in to the swing of things” playing tournament golf. The goal of One-Day Open Series events is to provide a fun and friendly tournament on a premium golf course. The event featured a field of 40 players from the PKB Girls’ Golf Tour, the nation’s largest “girls’ only” junior tour with over 375 members in 2013 and 262 girls playing in or committed to collegiate golf.
In the Bell Division-Prep Series, there was a three-way tie for first between Kathryn Carson (Mooresville, NC 2017), Juliana Sebastian (Columbia, SC 2014), and Roshnee Sharma (Waxhaw, NC 2016) who all shot five over par each with scores of 76. Carson proved victorious on the second hole of a sudden-death playoff to place first.
In the Futures Division, Hailey Pendleton (Waxhaw, NC 2020) shot six over par with a score of 77 to place first. Muskan Uppal (Cornelius, NC 2019) shot seven over par with a score of 78 to place second. Keri Kenkel (Charlotte, NC 2017) shot nine over par with a score of BLANK to place third.
With their victories, Carson and Pendleton received a class A exemptions into the Tournament of Champions this fall. PKBGT returns to action on Thursday, July 3 with the One-Day Open Series @ Stoney Creek GC in Whitsett, NC. The event brings together players from North Carolina, South Carolina, and Virginia.
