Preview: Bulldog Classic at UGA Athens

The 2014 Peggy Kirk Bell Girls’ Golf Tour kicks off the Spring Series this Saturday, January 25th with the Bulldog Classic @ University of Georgia GC. University of Georgia GC, home of the University of Georgia Bulldogs men’s and women’s golf teams and the 2013 Women’s NCAA National Championship, is a challenging course for this two-day tournament. The event features a field of 21 players from the PKB Girls’ Golf Tour, the nation’s largest “girls’ only” junior tour with over 375 members in 2013 and 262 girls playing in or committed to collegiate golf.

The Bell Division field features 8 golfers from three states.  With Bulldog Classic inaugural champion Rinko Mitsunaga (Roswell, GA 2015) not on hand to defend her title, look for Janet Mao (Johns Creek, GA 2015) ranked 213th nationally, Joey May Walz (Pittsburgh, PA 2015) ranked 640th nationally, and UAB committee Juliana Sebastian (Columbia, SC 2014) ranked 719th nationally to push for the title.

The Futures Division field features a strong field of 13 golfers, highlighted by two of the top 20 players on the 2013 PKBGT Order of Merit lists, including Woo Wade (Dunwoody, GA 2019) in 7th position, and Madison Branum (Lexington, SC 2018) in 20th position.  Both players will be seeking their third PKBGT Futures Division title, with Wade winning at NC State & PKBGT Open Championships @ CC of Salisbury while Branum won at Furman University & Ironwood Golf & CC.

The Bulldog Classic @ University of Georgia GC brings together the players from the North & South Carolina, Georgia, and Pennsylvania. It should be an exciting & challenging event to kick off 2014 !
