Recap: Hartsell wins One-Day Open at Rock Barn

On Wednesday, June 11, the 2014 Peggy Kirk Bell Girls’ Golf Tour played the One-Day Open Series at Rock Barn Golf & Spa (Jackson Course). Rock Barn is home to the PGA Champions Tour Greater Hickory Kia Classic and the Jackson Course is an iconic course for the first one-day tournament of the 2014 season. One-day tournaments are designed for golfers of all skill levels, but are a great place for development golfers to “get in to the swing of things” playing tournament golf. The goal of One-Day Open Series events is to provide a fun and friendly tournament on a premium golf course. The event featured a field of 30 players from the PKB Girls’ Golf Tour, the nation’s largest “girls’ only” junior tour with over 375 members in 2013 and 262 girls playing in or committed to collegiate golf.

The Bell Division-Prep Series, Abbey Hartsell (Hickory, NC 2015) shot eight over par with a score of 79 to place first. Hartsell is the first player in PKB Tour history to win the same event three years in a row. Way to go, Abbey! Roshnee Sharma (Waxhaw, NC 2016) shot 11 over par and won a scorecard playoff to place second and Grace Massengill (Hickory, NC 2016) shot 11 over par with a score of 82 to place third.

The Futures Division, Taylor Scovel (Charlotte, NC 2015) shot three over par with a score of 74 to place first. Alexandria Bare (Kannapolis, NC 2015) shot seven over par with a score of 78 to place second and Sophie Holland (Cornelius, NC 2020) shot 13 over par par with a score of 84 and won a scorecard playoff to place third.

With their victory’s, Hartsell and Scovel both received class A exemptions into the Tournament of Champions this fall.

PKBGT returns to action on Saturday-Sunday, June 14-15 with the Bash at the Bay Classic @ Golden Horseshoe Golf Club (Green Course) in Williamsburg, VA. The course is host to multiple college events & is a great course for the Bash at the Bay Classic. The tournament brings together players from event brings together players from Georgia, Maryland, North Carolina, and Virginia.

The Peggy Kirk Bell Girls’ Golf Tour is an initiative of the Triad Youth Golf Foundation, a 501(c)3 non-profit foundation aimed at increasing learning and playing opportunities for youth golfers.
