On Wednesday, June 11, the 2014 Peggy Kirk Bell Girls’ Golf Tour plays the One-Day Open Series at Rock Barn Golf & Spa (Jackson Course). Rock Barn is home to the PGA Champions Tour Greater Hickory Kia Classic and the Jackson Course is an iconic course for the first one-day tournament of the 2014 season. One-day tournaments are designed for golfers of all skill levels, but are a great place for development golfers to “get in to the swing of things” playing tournament golf. The goal of One-Day Open Series events is to provide a fun and friendly tournament on a premium golf course. The event features a field of 30 players from the PKB Girls’ Golf Tour, the nation’s largest “girls’ only” junior tour with over 375 members in 2013 and 262 girls playing in or committed to collegiate golf.
The Bell Division-Prep Series field features 9 golfers, highlighted by 2012 and 2013 defending champion, Abbey Hartsell (Hickory, NC 2015). While Hartsell will be attempting to be the first player in PKB Tour history to win the same event three years in a row, Savanna Mackie (Greensboro, NC 2014) and Grace Massengill (Hickory, NC 2016) will be giving her a run for her money.
The Futures Division field features 21 golfers, highlighted by five of the top-40 players on the 2014 PKBGT Order of Merit lists, including: Sophie Holland (Cornelius, NC 2020) in 4th position, Rachel Kuehn (Asheville, NC 2019) in 8th position, Alexis Jarrell (Davidson, NC 2018) in 17th position, Alexandria Bare (Kannapolis, NC 2015) in 24th position, and Faith Parker (Charlotte, NC 2018) in 36th position.
