On Saturday, June 7, the 2014 Peggy Kirk Bell Girls’ Golf Tour played the first round of the Pirate Classic at Greenville Country Club (Greenville Course). The course is home to the East Carolina University golf teams and is an excellent course for this two-day tournament. The event features a field of 38 players from the PKB Girls’ Golf Tour, the nation’s largest “girls’ only” junior tour with over 375 members in 2013 and 262 girls playing in or committed to collegiate golf.
The Bell Division-Prep Series, after round one, Siranon Shoomee (Sanford, NC 2016) is leading the field by one stroke at three over par with a score of 75. Not far behind Shoomee is Killian Casson (Ellicott City, MD 2015) at four over par with a score of 76. Hailey Freedman (Chapel Hill, NC 2018) and Grace Yatawara (Salisbury, NC 2016) are tied for third place at six over par each with scores of 79.
The Futures Division, after round one, Rebecca DiNunzio (Norfolk, VA 2019) is leading the field by four strokes at four over par with a score of 76. Not far behind DiNunzio is Kendall Turner (Chesapeake, VA 2019) at eight over par with a score of 80 and Lindsey Burton (Goldsboro, NC 2016) at 12 over par with a score of 84.
Weather for Sunday’s round looks fantastic with sunny skies and temperatures in the mid 80s. Looks like a great day to conclude the inaugural Pirate Classic!
The Peggy Kirk Bell Girls’ Golf Tour is an initiative of the Triad Youth Golf Foundation, a 501(c)3 non-profit foundation aimed at increasing learning and playing opportunities for youth golfers.
