Recap: Freedman wins Pirate Classic

On Sunday, June 8, the 2014 Peggy Kirk Bell Girls’ Golf Tour concluded the Pirate Classic at Greenville Country Club (Greenville Course). The course is home to the East Carolina University golf teams and was an excellent course for this two-day tournament. The event features a field of 37 players from the PKB Girls’ Golf Tour, the nation’s largest “girls’ only” junior tour with over 375 members in 2013 and 262 girls playing in or committed to collegiate golf.

The Bell Division-Prep Series, Hailey Freedman (Chapel Hill, NC 2018) shot one over par with a score of 73 and won a two-hole sudden-death playoff to place first with a score of 151. Killian Casson (Ellicott City, MD 2015) shot three over par with a score of 75 with a two-day total of 151 to place second and
Siranon Shoomee (Sanford, NC 2016) shot nine over par with a score of 81 with a two-day total of 156 to place third.

The Futures Division, Rebecca DiNunzio (Norfolk, VA 2019) shot 10 over par with a score of 82 with a two-day total of 158 to place first. Kendall Turner (Chesapeake, VA 2019) shot 11 over par with a score of 83 with a two-day total of 163 to place second and Jillian Preisach (Fuquay Varina, NC 2019) shot four over par with a score of 76 with a two-day total of 167 to place third.

With their victory’s, Freedman and DiNunzio both received class A exemptions into the Tournament of Champions this fall. With their runner-up finishes, Casson and Turner both received class C exemptions into the Tournament of Champions.

PKBGT returns to action on Wednesday, June 11 with the One-Day Open Series @ Rock Barn Resort & Spa (Jackson Course) in Conover, NC. One-Day tournaments are designed for golfers of all skill levels, but are a great place for development golfers to “get in to the swing of things” playing tournament golf. The goal of One-Day Open Series events is to provide a fun and friendly tournament on a premium golf course. The tournament brings together players from event brings together players from North Carolina, South Carolina, Tennessee, Virginia, and West Virginia.

The Peggy Kirk Bell Girls’ Golf Tour is an initiative of the Triad Youth Golf Foundation, a 501(c)3 non-profit foundation aimed at increasing learning and playing opportunities for youth golfers. Based out of Greensboro, North Carolina, the PKBGT offers affordable, high-quality nationally ranked girls’ golf tournaments designed to prepare junior girls’ golfers for high school and collegiate golf.
