Recap: Floyd wins Futures Open

On Sunday, May 25, the 2014 Peggy Kirk Bell Girls’ Golf Tour concluded the PKBGT FUTURES OPEN CHAMPIONSHIP at Sapona Ridge Country Club. The course proved tricky, but regardless, was great venues for the third championship event of the season. The event featured of field of 29 players from the PKB Girls’ Golf Tour, the nation’s largest “girls’ only” junior tour with over 375 members in 2013 and 262 girls playing in or committed to collegiate golf.

In the Futures Division, Katharina Floyd (Chapel Hill, NC 2020) shot three over par with a score of 74 to place first with a two-day total of 149. Rebecca DiNunzio (Norfolk, VA 2019) shot three over par with a score of 74 to place second with a two-day total of 155 and Woo Wade (Dunwoody, GA 2019) shot five over par with a score of 76 to place third with a two-day total of 156.

With her victory, Floyd received a class A exemptions into the Tournament of Champions this fall. With their runner-up and third place finishes, DiNunzio and Wade both received class B exemptions into the Tournament of Champions.

PKBGT returns to action in two weeks on Saturday-Sunday, June 7-8 with the Pirate Classic @ Greenville Country Club in Greenville, NC. The course is home to the East Carolina University golf teams. The tournament brings together players from event brings together players from North Carolina and Virginia.

The Peggy Kirk Bell Girls’ Golf Tour is an initiative of the Triad Youth Golf Foundation, a 501(c)3 non-profit foundation aimed at increasing learning and playing opportunities for youth golfers. Based out of Greensboro, North Carolina, the PKBGT offers affordable, high-quality nationally ranked girls’ golf tournaments designed to prepare junior girls’ golfers for high school and collegiate golf.
