Recap: Schanen wins Bell Open

On Monday, May 26, the 2014 Peggy Kirk Bell Girls’ Golf Tour concluded the PKBGT BELL OPEN CHAMPIONSHIP at Country Club of Salisbury. The course proved tricky, but regardless, a great venue for the third championship event of the season. The event features a field of 59 players from the PKB Girls’ Golf Tour, the nation’s largest “girls’ only” junior tour with over 375 members in 2013 and 262 girls playing in or committed to collegiate golf.

In the Bell Division, Payton Schanen (Milton, GA 2015) shot one under par with a score of 70 to place first with a three-day total of 214. Delaney Shah (North Potomac, MD 2016) shot even par with a score of 71 to place second with a three-day total of 218. There was a three-way tie for third place between Rhea Bhatia (Wake Forest, NC 2016), Elizabeth Bose (Norfolk, VA 2016), and Siranon Shoomee (Sanford, NC 2016) who all finished with a three-day total of 222.

With her victory, Schanen received class A exemptions into the Tournament of Champions this fall. With their runner-up and third place finishes, Shah, Bhatia, Bose, and Shoomee both received class B exemptions into the Tournament of Champions.

PKBGT returns to action in two weeks on Saturday-Sunday, June 7-8 with the Pirate Classic @ Greenville Country Club in Greenville, NC. The course is home to the East Carolina University golf teams. The tournament brings together players from event brings together players from North Carolina and Virginia.

The Peggy Kirk Bell Girls’ Golf Tour is an initiative of the Triad Youth Golf Foundation, a 501(c)3 non-profit foundation aimed at increasing learning and playing opportunities for youth golfers.
