On Saturday, May 3, the 2014 Peggy Kirk Bell Girls’ Golf Tour played the first round of the Carolina’s Classic at Carolina Trace Country Club (Lake Course). The Lake Course, host site of North Carolina’s 2014 US Women’s Open Qualifier, is a difficult course for this two-day tournament. The event features a field of 40 players from the PKB Girls’ Golf Tour, the nation’s largest “girls’ only” junior tour with over 375 members in 2013 and 262 girls playing in or committed to collegiate golf.
The Bell Division, after round one, Virginia Tech committee Elizabeth Bose (2015, Norfolk, VA) has a 5-shot lead after carding a brilliant 2-over par 74 on the challenging Lake Course lay-out. Bose steady play of 2 birdies, 12 pars and 4 bogeys has her in position for a 2nd PKBGT title. In the final pairing on Sunday will be Annie Collom (2015, Davidson, NC) who carded a 79 and Meghan Symonds (2015, Cary, NC) at 81.
The Futures Division, after round one, Keri Kenkel (2017, Charlotte, NC) is leading the field by three strokes with a 6-over par 78. Futures Division Order of Merit Champion Katharina Floyd (2020, Chapel Hill, NC) sits alone in second place at 81. PKBGT newcomer Alisa Caraballo (2019, Troutville, NC) sits in third at 83.
Weather for Sunday’s round looks perfect with sunny skis and temperatures in the 80’s. It should be a great day to play!
