Recap: Bose dominant in 7 shot victory at Carolina’s Classic

On Sunday, May 11, the 2014 Peggy Kirk Bell Girls’ Golf Tour concluded the Carolina’s Classic at Carolina Trace Country Club. The Lake Course, host site of North Carolina’s 2014 US Women’s Open Qualifier, proved a difficult course for this two-day tournament. The event featured a field of 40 players from the PKB Girls’ Golf Tour, the nation’s largest “girls’ only” junior tour with over 375 members in 2013 and 262 girls playing in or committed to collegiate golf.

In the Bell Division, Elizabeth Bose led wire to wire with a commanding seven shot victory, claiming her second PKBGT title.  She previously had won the 2012 Bash at the Bay Classic at Kingsmill Resort.  Bose, who has made a verbal commitment to play college golf at Virginia Tech University, carded back to back 2-over par 74’s to finish at 148.  Annie Collom (2015, Davidson, NC) finished in second with rounds of 79-76-155.   Sanford resident Siranon Shoomee continued her strong play with a second day 76 to finish in third, 83-76-159.

In the Futures Division, Katharina Floyd (2020, Chapel Hill, NC) continued her Futures Division dominance with a 10-shot victory.  Her third win of the season, Katharina carded rounds of 81 & 76 to finish at 157.  Woo Wade (2019, Dunwoody, GA) finished in second at 85-82-167.  Diana Cristina Domenech (2018, Richmond, VA) came in third with a score of  87-83-170.

With their victory’s, Bose and Floyd both received class A exemptions into the Tournament of Champions this fall. With their runner-up finishes, Annie Collom and Wade both received class C exemptions into the Tournament of Champions.

PKBGT returns to action next weekend on Saturday-Sunday, May 17-18 with the Metrolina Classic @ Rock Hill Country Club in Rock Hill, SC. The course is home to the Winthrop University golf teams. The event brings together players from event brings together players from Georgia, North Carolina, South Carolina, Virginia, and West Virginia.
