On Saturday, March 9, the 2013 Peggy Kirk Bell Girls’ Golf Tour played the first round of the NC University Classic at the Finley Golf Course at University of North Carolina-Chapel Hill. The Finley Golf Course, home of the University of North Carolina-Chapel Hill Tar Heels golf teams, challenging course for this two-day tournament. The event features a field of 90 players from the PKB Girls’ Golf Tour, the nation’s largest “girls’ only” junior tour with over 330 members in 2012, 137 alumni in the collegiate ranks and 29 National Letter of Intent signees for fall 2013.

The Bell Division field features 60 golfers, highlighted by 11 of the top 400 players nationally by Junior Golf Scoreboard. After round one, Jessica Porvasnik (Hinckley, OH 2013) is leading the field by one stroke at one over par with a score of 73. Not far behind Porvasnik is Allyson Markiewicz (Charlotte, NC 2013) and Emilia Migliaccio (Cary, NC 2017) tied for second at two over par with a score of 74, and Bryana Nguyen (Columbia, MD 2014) and and Gina Kim (Chapel Hill, NC 2018) tied for fourth at three over par with a score of 75.

The Futures Division field features 30 golfers, highlighted by five of the top 40 players on the 2012 PKBGT Order of Merit lists. After round one, Callista Rice (Mars Hill, NC 2017) is leading the field by three strokes at five over par with a score of 77. Not far behind Rice is Kathryn Carson (Mooresville, NC 2017) and Maria Cassas (Cary, NC 2015) tied for second at eight over par with a score of 80 and Kendall Dobbins (Summerfield, NC 2016) in fourth at 11 over par with a score of 83.

Weather on Sunday looks sunny with temperatures in the mid 60s. It should be an exciting end to the largest classic tournament of the 2013 PKB season!
