Recap: Migliaccio Wins NC University Classic

On Sunday, March 10, the 2013 Peggy Kirk Bell Girls’ Golf Tour concluded the NC University Classic at the Finley Golf Course at University of North Carolina-Chapel Hill. The Finley Golf Course, home of the University of North Carolina-Chapel Hill Tar Heels golf teams, proved a challenging course for this two-day tournament. The event featured a field of 90 players from the PKB Girls’ Golf Tour, the nation’s largest “girls’ only” junior tour with over 330 members in 2012, 137 alumni in the collegiate ranks and 29 National Letter of Intent signees for fall 2013.

In her first tournament in the Bell Division, Emilia Migliaccio (Cary, NC 2017) carded two under par with a score of 70 to place first with 74 + 70 = 144. Migliaccio had six birdies on the front nine to shoot 30. When asked about her front nine, she said, “I knew I was low, but I didn’t know how low since I didn’t look at my scorecard.” Jessica Porvasnik (Hinckley, OH 2013) carded even par with a score of 72 to place second with 73 + 72 = 145. Shannon Brooks (Vienna, VA 2015) carded one under par with a score of 71 to place third with 78 + 71 = 149.

In the Futures Division, Callista Rice (Mars Hill, NC 2017) carded nine over par with a score of 81 to place first with 77 + 81 = 158. Kathryn Carson (Mooresville, NC 2017) carded eight over par with a score of 80 to place second with 80 + 80 = 160. Maria Cassas (Cary, NC 2015) carded eight over par with a score of 80 to place third with 80 + 80 = 160.

PKBGT returns to action next week on Saturday-Sunday, March 16-17 with the Palmetto Classic @ the University of South Carolina in Blythewood, SC. This event brings together players from the Carolinas, Georgia, Maryland, and Virginia.
