Update: Shanahan leads at Players Championship

On Saturday, February 16, the 2013 Peggy Kirk Bell Girls’ Golf Tour played the first round of the PLAYERS CHAMPIONSHIP @ Chateau Elan Resort (Chateau Course). Chateau Elan Resort (Chateau Course) is a challenging course for the first major tournament. The event features a field of 38 players from the PKB Girls’ Golf Tour, the nation’s largest “girls’ only” junior tour with over 400 members in 2012, 137 alumni in the collegiate ranks and 29 National Letter of Intent signees for fall 2013.

The Bell Division field features 31 golfers, highlighted by 10 of the top 500 players nationally. After round one, Sloan Shanahan (Suwanee, GA 2013) is leading the field at even par with a score of 71. Not far behind Shanahan is Kayla Jones (Alpharetta, GA 2014) in second at four over par with a score of 75, and Rinko Mitsunaga (Roswell, GA 2015) and Madison Moosa (Charlotte, NC 2017) tied in third at five over par with a score of 76.

The Futures Division field features 7 golfers, highlighted by two of the top 40 players on the 2012 PKBGT Order of Merit lists. After round one, Alyssa Montgomery (Knoxville, TN 2019) is leading the field at 13 over par with a score of 84. Not far behind Montgomery is McKenzie Hedrick (Bishop, GA 2015) in second at 15 over par with a score of 86 and Kinsey Soniat (Simpsonville, SC 2013) in third at 16 over par with a score of 87.

Weather on Sunday looks sunny with temperatures in the mid 40s. It should be an exciting end to the first major tournament of the 2013 PKB season!

The Peggy Kirk Bell Girls’ Golf Tour is an initiative of the Triad Youth Golf Foundation, a 501(c)3 non-profit foundation aimed at increasing learning and playing opportunities for youth golfers.
