On Saturday, February 2, the 2013 Peggy Kirk Bell Girls’ Golf Tour played the first round of the Chanticleer Classic @ The Hackler Course at Coastal Carolina University. The Hackler Course, home of the Coastal Carolina University Chanticleers men’s and women’s golf teams, is a challenging course for this two-day tournament. The event features a field of 46 players from the PKB Girls’ Golf Tour, the nation’s largest “girls’ only” junior tour with over 400 members in 2012, 137 alumni in the collegiate ranks and 29 National Letter of Intent signees for fall 2013.
The Bell Division field features 16 golfers, highlighted by three of the top 550 players nationally. After round one, Juliana Sebastian (Columbia, SC 2014) and Ashley Sloup (Southport, NC 2014) are are tied for first with scores of 77. Not far behind Sebastian and Sloup is Makalyn Poole (Williamston, SC 2015) at 10 over par with a score of 82 and Shannon Brooks (Vienna, VA 2015) at 11 over par with a score of 83.
The Futures Division field features 20 golfers, highlighted by three of the top 15 players on the 2012 PKBGT Order of Merit lists. After round one, Haeley Wotnosky (Wake Forest, NC 2018) is leading the field at seven over par with a score of 79. Not far behind Wotnosky is Lena Capoccia (Bethesda, MD 2018) at 12 over par with a score of 84, and Holly McCann (Raleigh, NC 2019) and Madison Elliott (Little River, SC 2017) tied at 13 over par with scores of 85.
Weather on Sunday looks sunny with temperatures in the mid 50s. It should be an exciting end to the second tournament of the 2013 PKB season.
The Peggy Kirk Bell Girls’ Golf Tour is an initiative of the Triad Youth Golf Foundation, a 501(c)3 non-profit foundation aimed at increasing learning and playing opportunities for youth golfers.
