Preview: TOUR CHAMPIONSHIP at Pine Needles

On Monday-Tuesday, August 12-13, the 2013 Peggy Kirk Bell Girls’ Golf Tour plays the TOUR CHAMPIONSHIP at Pine Needles Lodge and Golf Club. Pine Needles, host the US Women’s Open in 1996, 2001, and 2007, is among the most well know golf courses in the southern US and a ideal setting for the final open major championship of the PKB Tour regular season. The event features a field of 79 players. The field is quite strong with 23 event champions from the 2013 season and 20 of the top 30 players on the 2013 PKBGT Order of Merit lists.

The Bell Division field features 49 golfers, highlighted by four of the top 30 players 2013 PKBGT Order of Merit list, including: Shannon Brooks (Vienna, VA 2015) in 2nd position, Sarah Spicer (Bahama, NC 2016) in 7th position, Jessica Spicer (Bahama, NC 2016) in 17th position, and Elizabeth Bose (Norfolk, VA 2015) in 28th position. There are eight event champions from the 2013 season, including: Brooks, winner of the Cape Fear Classic @ River Landing, the Terrapin Classic @ University of Maryland GC, and the Paladin Classic @ Furman University GC; Juliana Sebastian (Columbia, SC 2014), winner of the Chanticleer Classic @ The Hackler Course at Coastal Carolina University; S. Spicer, winner of the PGS JR GIRLS CHAMPIONSHIP @ Forest Oaks CC; Savanna Wood (Boone, NC 2014), winner of the One-Day Open Series @ Forest Oaks CC; Abbey Hartsell (Hickory, NC 2015), winner of the One-Day Open Series @ Rock Barn Golf & Spa; and Grace Yatawara (Salisbury, NC 2016), winner of the One-Day Open Series @ Sapona Ridge CC.

The Futures Division field features 31 golfers, highlighted by 16 of the top 30 players on the 2013 PKBGT Order of Merit lists, including: Callista Rice (Mars Hill, NC 2017) in 1st position, Kathryn Carson (Mooresville, NC 2017) in 2nd position, Moon Cheong (Charlotte, NC 2017) in 3rd position, Lena Capoccia (Bethesda, MD 2018) in 6th position, Woo Wade (Dunwoody, GA 2019) and Diana Cristina Domenech (Richmond, VA 2018) tied in 7th position, Susannah Ireland (Wake Forest, NC 2017) in 9th position, Elizabeth Nguyen (Pinehurst, NC 2017) in 10th position, Nina Kouchi (Matthews, NC 2018) and Alyssa Montgomery (Knoxville, TN 2019), Sirena Walsh (Chantilly, VA 2016) tied in 14th position, Janie Thomas (Winston-Salem, NC 2016) in 19th position, Natalie Petersen (Holly Springs, NC 2017) in 20th position, Hailey Joy (Reidsville, NC 2018) in 21st position, Morgan Laird (Waxhaw, NC 2015) in 26th position, Kelly Salamy (Williamsburg, VA 2020) in 29th position. There are 13 event champions from the 2013 season, including: Rice, winner of the Bulldog Classic @ University of Georgia GC, the North Carolina University Classic @ The Finely GC at University of North Carolina-Chapel Hill, and the MASTERS @ Salem Glen Golf & CC; Cheong, winner of the Palmetto Classic @ Cobblestone Park GC at University of South Carolina-Columbia; Capoccia winner of the Richmond Classic @ Providence GC, the Terrapin Classic @ University of Maryland GC, and the Boar’s Head Inn Classic @ Birdwood GC at UVA; Wade, winner of the Wolfpack Classic @ Lonnie Poole GC at NC State University and the OPEN CHAMPIONSHIP @ CC of Salisbury; Petersen, winner of the One-Day Open Series @ Forest Oaks CC; Joy, winner of the One-Day Open Series @ Stoney Creek GC; Laird, winner of the One-Day Open Series @ Rock Barn Golf & Spa; and Nguyen (Pinehurst, NC 2017), and winner of the One-Day Open Series @ Sapona Ridge CC.

The TOUR CHAMPIONSHIP @ Pine Needles Lodge & Golf Club brings together the players from from Georgia, Maryland, North Carolina, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, South Carolina, and Virginia. It should be great major championship! Who will be golden?

The Peggy Kirk Bell Girls’ Golf Tour is an initiative of the Triad Youth Golf Foundation, a 501(c)3 non-profit foundation aimed at increasing learning and playing opportunities for youth golfers. Based out of Greensboro, North Carolina, the PKBGT offers low cost, nationally ranked girls’ golf tournaments designed to prepare junior girls’ golfers for high school and collegiate golf. The PKBGT is the nation’s largest “girls’ only” junior tour with over 330 members in 2012, 137 alumni in the collegiate ranks and 29 National Letter of Intent signees for fall 2013.
