Update: 3-Way tied for lead at UVA

On Monday, July 22, the 2013 Peggy Kirk Bell Girls’ Golf Tour played the first round of the Boar’s Head Inn Classic at Birdwood Golf Course at UVA. Birdwood, home to the University of Virginia men’s and women’s golf teams is an excellent course for this two-day tournament. The event features a field of 28 players. The field is strong with four players ranked inside the top 10 in their state by Junior Golf Scoreboard, one player ranked inside the top 10 in her state by Junior Golf Scoreboard, two players ranked inside the top 100 for their class by Junior Golf Scoreboard, and four of the top 40 players on the 2013 PKBGT Order of Merit lists.

The Bell Division field features 15 golfers, highlighted by two of the top 40 players on the 2013 PKBGT Order of Merit lists and three players ranked inside the top 10 in their state by Junior Golf Scoreboard. After round one, there is a three-way tie for first between Graysen Bright (Rockville, MD 2015), Elizabeth Bose (Norfolk, VA 2015), and Grace Massengill (Hickory, NC 2016) who all shot five over par with scores of 77 each. Not far behind the leaders is Allison Wong (Rockville, MD 2014) in fourth place at seven over par with a score of 79 and Kendall Dobbins (Summerfield, NC 2016) in fifth place at 10 over par with a score of 82.

The Futures Division field features 14 golfers, highlighted by three of the top 40 players on the 2013 PKBGT Order of Merit lists, one player ranked inside the top 10 in her state by Junior Golf Scoreboard, and two players ranked inside the top 100 for their class by Junior Golf Scoreboard. After round one, Lena Capoccia (Bethesda, MD 2018) is leading the field at nine over par with a score of 81. Not far behind Capoccia is Diana Cristina Domenech (Richmond, VA 2018) in second place at 11 over par with a score of 83 and Sirena Walsh (Chantilly, VA 2016) in third place at 15 over par with a score of 87.

The Peggy Kirk Bell Girls’ Golf Tour is an initiative of the Triad Youth Golf Foundation, a 501(c)3 non-profit foundation aimed at increasing learning and playing opportunities for youth golfers.
