On Monday-Tuesday, July 22-23, the 2013 Peggy Kirk Bell Girls’ Golf Tour plays the Boar’s Head Inn Classic at Birdwood Golf Course at UVA. Birdwood, home to the University of Virginia men’s and women’s golf teams is an excellent course for this two-day tournament. The event features a field of 28 players. The field is strong with four players ranked inside the top 10 in their state by Junior Golf Scoreboard, one player ranked inside the top 10 in her state by Junior Golf Scoreboard, two players ranked inside the top 100 for their class by Junior Golf Scoreboard, and four of the top 40 players on the 2013 PKBGT Order of Merit lists.
The Bell Division field features 15 golfers, highlighted by two of the top 40 players on the 2013 PKBGT Order of Merit lists, including: Elizabeth Bose (Norfolk, VA 2015) in 29th position and Grace Massengill (Hickory, NC 2016) in 31st position. Three Bell Division players are ranked inside the top 10 in their state by Junior Golf Scoreboard, including: Adeena Shears (Elizabeth, WV 2016) ranked 2nd, Allison Wong (Rockville, MD 2014) ranked 3, and Bose ranked 9th.
The Futures Division field features 13 golfers, highlighted by three of the top 40 players on the 2013 PKBGT Order of Merit lists, including: Lena Capoccia (Bethesda, MD 2018) ranked 6th, Diana Cristina Domenech (Richmond, VA 2018) ranked 8th, and Sirena Walsh (Chantilly, VA 2016) ranked 12th. Capoccia is also ranked inside the top 10 in her state by Junior Golf Scoreboard. Capoccia and Domenech are also ranked inside the top 100 for their class by Junior Golf Scoreboard; Capoccia ranked 42nd and Domenech ranked 82nd respectively.
The Boar’s Head Inn Classic at Birdwood Golf Course at UVA brings together players from Maryland, North Carolina, Virginia, and West Virginia. Weather for the tournament looks sunny with temperatures in the 80s. Should be a great couple days for the Boar’s Head Inn Classic!
The Peggy Kirk Bell Girls’ Golf Tour is an initiative of the Triad Youth Golf Foundation, a 501(c)3 non-profit foundation aimed at increasing learning and playing opportunities for youth golfers. Based out of Greensboro, North Carolina, the PKBGT offers low cost, nationally ranked girls’ golf tournaments designed to prepare junior girls’ golfers for high school and collegiate golf. The PKBGT is the nation’s largest “girls’ only” junior tour with over 330 members in 2012, 137 alumni in the collegiate ranks and 29 National Letter of Intent signees for fall 2013.
