Recap: Yatawara wins One-Day at Sapona

One-day tournaments are designed for golfers of all skill levels, but are a great place for development golfers to “get in to the swing of things” playing tournament golf. The goal of One-Day Open Series events is to provide a fun and friendly tournament on a premium golf course. The event featured a field of 30 players.

In the Bell Division, Grace Yatawara (Salisbury, NC 2016) shot seven over par with a score of 78 to place first. Kendall Dobbins (Summerfield, NC 2016) shot 14 over par with a score of 85 to place second. Maria Cassas (Cary, NC 2015) shot 15 over par with a score of 86 to place third.

In the Futures Division, Elizabeth Nguyen (Pinehurst, NC 2017) shot four over par with a score of 75 to place first. Keri Kenkel (Charlotte, NC 2017) and Lydia Randell (Winston-Salem, NC 2015) both shot nine over par each with scores of 80 to tie for third place.

With their victory’s today, Yatawara and Nguyen both received exemptions into the sixth major tournament of the season, the Tournament of Champions which is being held at Moss Creek Country Club (North Course) in Hilton Head Island, SC in September.

PKBGT returns to action on Monday-Tuesday, July 22-23 with the Boar’s Head Inn Classic at Birdwood Golf Course at UVA. Birdwood, home to the University of Virginia men’s and women’s golf teams. The tournament brings together players from Maryland, North Carolina, Pennsylvania, Virginia, and West Virginia. It should be a great tournament.
