Recap: Dobbins wins One-Day at Stoney Creek

On Monday, July 8, the 2013 Peggy Kirk Bell Girls’ Golf Tour played the One-Day Open Series at Stoney Creek Golf Club. Stoney Creek, home to the Elon University men’s and women’s golf teams, is a tricky course for the fourth one-day tournament of the 2013 season. One-day tournaments are designed for golfers of all skill levels, but are a great place for development golfers to “get in to the swing of things” playing tournament golf. The goal of One-Day Open Series events is to provide a fun and friendly tournament on a premium golf course. Today’s event featured a field of 29 players.

Playing in her first event in as a Bell Division player, Kendall Dobbins (Summerfield, NC 2016) shot nine over par with a score of 80 to place first. Meghan Holbrooks (Winston-Salem, NC 2014) shot 10 over par with a score of 81 to place second. Brittany Smith (Stanley, NC 2013) shot 12 over par with a score of 83 to place third.

In the Futures Division, there was a three-way tie for first between Diana Cristina Domenech (Richmond, VA 2018), Hailey Joy (Reidsville, NC 2018), and Nina Kouchi (Matthews, NC 2018) who all shot three over par with scores of 74. Joy won a two-hole sudden-death playoff to win the event. To determine second and third place, there was a card-off; Kouchi placed second and Domenech placed third.

With their victory’s today, Dobbins and Joy both received exemptions into the sixth major tournament of the season, the Tournament of Champions which is being held at Moss Creek Country Club (North Course) in Hilton Head Island, SC in September.

PKBGT returns to action later this week on Friday, July 12 with the One-Day Open Series at Rock Barn Golf & Spa (Jackson Course). Rock Barn is home to the PGA Champions Tour Greater Hickory Kia Classic and the Jackson Course is a iconic course for fifth one-day tournament of the 2013 season. The tournament brings together players from across North Carolina. It should be a great tournament.
