Update: Massengill leads at Bash at the Bay

On Saturday, June 15, the 2013 Peggy Kirk Bell Girls’ Golf Tour played the first round of the Bash at the Bay Classic at Kingsmill Resort (Woods Course). The resort is home of the LPGA Kingsmill Championship and the Woods Course is a difficult course for this two-day tournament. The event features a field of 43 players. The field is strong with 14 players ranked inside the top 30 in their state by Junior Golf Scoreboard and 17 of the top 40 players on the 2013 PKBGT Order of Merit lists.

The Bell Division field features 19 golfers, highlighted by two of the top 40 players on the 2013 PKBGT Order of Merit lists. After round one, Grace Massengill (Hickory, NC 2016) is leading the field at three over par with a score of 75. Not far behind Massengill is Allison Cooper (Harrisburg, PA 2015) in second place at six over par with a score of 78 and Joey Mae Walz (Pittsburgh, PA 2015) in third place at seven over par with a score of 79.

The Futures Division field features 24 golfers, highlighted by 15 of the top 40 players on the 2013 PKBGT Order of Merit lists. After round one, Holly McCann (Raleigh, NC 2019) is leading the field at five over par with a score of 77. Not far behind McCann is Kelly Salamy (Williamsburg, VA 2020) in second place at eight over par with a score of 80 and Natalie Petersen (Holly Springs, NC 2017) in third place at nine over par with a score of 81.

Weather for Sunday looks is sunny with temperatures in the low 90s. Looks like a beautiful day for lots of birdies and low scores. It should still be an exciting conclusion to this two-day tournament. Follow the action live at the scoreboard button below.

The Peggy Kirk Bell Girls’ Golf Tour is an initiative of the Triad Youth Golf Foundation, a 501(c)3 non-profit foundation aimed at increasing learning and playing opportunities for youth golfers. Based out of Greensboro, North Carolina, the PKBGT offers low cost, nationally ranked girls’ golf tournaments designed to prepare junior girls’ golfers for high school and collegiate golf.
