Recap: Massengill wins Bash at the Bay

On Sunday, June 16, the 2013 Peggy Kirk Bell Girls’ Golf Tour concluded the Bash at the Bay Classic at Kingsmill Resort (Woods Course). The resort is home of the LPGA Kingsmill Championship and the Woods Course is a difficult course for this two-day tournament. The event featured a field of 43 players. The field is strong with 14 players ranked inside the top 30 in their state by Junior Golf Scoreboard and 17 of the top 40 players on the 2013 PKBGT Order of Merit lists.

In the Bell Division, Grace Massengill (Hickory, NC 2016) shot eight over par with a score of 80 to place first with 75 + 80 = 175. Allison Cooper (Harrisburg, PA 2015) shot 10 over par with a score of 82 to place second with 78 + 82 = 160. Jessica Kittelberger (Raleigh, NC 2014) and Khushboo Thiagaraj (Haymarket, VA 2014) tied for third with two-day scores of 161 each.

In the Futures Division, Holly McCann (Raleigh, NC 2019) shot eight over par with a score of 80 to place first with 77 + 80 = 157. Kelly Salamy (Williamsburg, VA 2020) shot seven over par with a score of 79 to place second with 80 + 79 = 159. Olivia Zambruno (Mt. Pleasant, PA 2017) shot five over par with a score 77 to place third with 84 + 77 = 161.

With their victory’s today, Massengill and McCann both received exemptions into the sixth major tournament of the season, the Tournament of Champions, which is being held at Moss Creek Country Club (North Course) in Hilton Head Island, SC in September.

PKBGT returns to action next week on Monday, June 24 with the One-Day Open Series @ Green Valley Country Club in Greenville, SC. The tournament brings together players from Georgia, North Carolina, and South Carolina. It should be a great tournament.

The Peggy Kirk Bell Girls’ Golf Tour is an initiative of the Triad Youth Golf Foundation, a 501(c)3 non-profit foundation aimed at increasing learning and playing opportunities for youth golfers. Based out of Greensboro, North Carolina, the PKBGT offers low cost, nationally ranked girls’ golf tournaments designed to prepare junior girls’ golfers for high school and collegiate golf. The PKBGT is the nation’s largest “girls’ only” junior tour with over 330 members in 2012, 137 alumni in the collegiate ranks and 29 National Letter of Intent signees for fall 2013.
