Update: Dodson, Tardy leading at Carolinas Classic

On Saturday, May 11, the 2013 Peggy Kirk Bell Girls’ Golf Tour played the first round of the Carolina’s Classic at Carolina Trace Country Club (Lake Course). The Lake Course, host site of North Carolina’s 2013 US Women’s Open Qualifier on May 30, is a difficult course for this two-day tournament. The event features a field of 45 players. The field is strong with five of the top 300 players ranked nationally by Junior Golf Scoreboard and 10 players ranked inside the top 100 for their class by Junior Golf Scoreboard.

The Bell Division, after round one, Taylor Dodson (Aiken, SC 2013) and Bailey Tardy (Norcross, GA 2015) are leading the field at six over par with scores of 78. Not far behind the leaders are Kelsey Badmaev (Blythewood, SC 2013) and Eunice Yi (Evans, GA 2013) at nine over par with scores of 81. The tees are pushed back to nearly 6,300 yards and the course rating is tough at 77.6 in hopes of preparing the PKB girls who will be competing in the upcoming US Women’s Open Qualifier at the course in a few weeks.

The Futures Division, after round one, Samantha Vodry (Mooresville, NC 2016) is leading the field at six over par with a score of 78. Natalie Petersen (Holly Springs, NC 2017) is in second at 15 over par with a score of 87. Susannah Ireland (Wake Forest, NC 2017) and Aubrey Patti (Winston-Salem, NC 2015) are tied for third at 17 over par with scores of 89.

Weather for Sunday looks is sunny with temperatures in the 70s. Looks like a beautiful day for lots of birdies and low scores. It should still be an exciting conclusion to this two-day tournament. Follow the action live at the scoreboard button below.
