On Saturday, May 12, the 2013 Peggy Kirk Bell Girls’ Golf Tour concluded the Carolina’s Classic at Carolina Trace Country Club (Lake Course). The Lake Course, host site of North Carolina’s 2013 US Women’s Open Qualifier on May 30, is a difficult course for this two-day tournament. The event features a field of 44 players. The field is strong with five of the top 300 players ranked nationally by Junior Golf Scoreboard and 10 players ranked inside the top 100 for their class by Junior Golf Scoreboard.
The Bell Division, Bailey Tardy (Norcross, GA 2015) shot eight over par with a score of 80 and Kelsey Badmaev (Blythewood, SC 2013) shot five over par with a score of 77 to tie for first with 158. There was a one-hole sudden-death playoff where Badmaev made a flawless up-and-down for par to win the event. Lucia Polo (Greensboro, NC 2013) shot five over par with a score 77 to place third with 83 + 77 = 160. A number of the PKB girls will be back to Carolina Trace to compete in the upcoming US Women’s Open Qualifier at the course in a few weeks.
The Futures Division, Samantha Vodry (Mooresville, NC 2016) carded 10 over par wit ha score of 82 to place first with 78 + 82 = 160. This is Vodry’s first win on the PKB Tour. Susannah Ireland (Wake Forest, NC 2017) carded 17 over par with a score of 89 to place second with 89 + 89 = 178. Natalie Petersen (Holly Springs, NC 2017) carded 20 over par with a score of 92 with 87 + 92 = 179.
PKBGT returns to action next weekend on Saturday, May 18 with the One-Day Open Series @ Ironwood Golf & Country Club in Greenville, NC. The tournament brings together players from North Carolina, Pennsylvania, South Carolina, and Virginia. It should be a great tournament.
The Peggy Kirk Bell Girls’ Golf Tour is an initiative of the Triad Youth Golf Foundation, a 501(c)3 non-profit foundation aimed at increasing learning and playing opportunities for youth golfers. Based out of Greensboro, North Carolina, the PKBGT offers low cost, nationally ranked girls’ golf tournaments designed to prepare junior girls’ golfers for high school and collegiate golf. The PKBGT is the nation’s largest “girls’ only” junior tour with over 330 members in 2012, 137 alumni in the collegiate ranks and 29 National Letter of Intent signees for fall 2013.
