Preview: Terrapin Classic at UMD

On Saturday-Sunday, April 20-21, the 2013 Peggy Kirk Bell Girls’ Golf Tour plays the Terrapin Classic at University of Maryland Golf Course. University of Maryland Golf Course, home of the University of Maryland Terrapins men’s and women’s golf teams, is a classic course for this two-day tournament. The event features a field of 51 players. The field is strong with three of the top 500 players ranked nationally by Junior Golf Scoreboard and seven players ranked inside the top 100 for their class by Junior Golf Scoreboard.

The Bell Division field features 26 golfers, highlighted by three of the top 500 players ranked nationally by Junior Golf Scoreboard, including: Bryana Nguyen (Columbia, MD 2014) ranked 71st, Shannon Brooks (Vienna, VA 2015) ranked 329th, and Jordan McKelvin (Westminster, MD 2015) ranked 497th. Six Bell Division players are ranked inside the top 100 for their class by Junior Golf Scoreboard, including: Lauren Kim (Woodstock, MD 2017) ranked 33rd, Allyson Geer (Brighton, MI 2017) ranked 45, Delaney Shah (North Potomac, MD 2016) ranked 74, and Amber Liu (Vienna, VA 2016) ranked 94th.

The Futures Division field features 25 golfers, highlighted by six of the top 40 players on the 2013 PKBGT Order of Merit lists, including: Diana Cristina Domenech (Richmond, VA 2018) in 18th position, Sirena Walsh (Chantilly, VA 2016) in 22nd position, Ashley Nguyen (South Riding, VA 2017) and Kelly Salamy (Williamsburg, VA 2020) tied in 31st position, and Eunbbie Kim (Potomac, MD 2015) in 39th position. Lena Capoccia (Bethesda, MD 2018) is ranked inside the top 100 for her class by Junior Golf Scoreboard.

The Terrapin Classic at University of Maryland Golf Course brings together players from DC, Maryland, Michigan, North Carolina, Pennsylvania, Virginia, West Virginia, and even Ontario, Canada. Weather for the weekend looks sunny with temperatures in the 60s. Should be a great weekend for the Terrapin Classic!

The Peggy Kirk Bell Girls’ Golf Tour is an initiative of the Triad Youth Golf Foundation, a 501(c)3 non-profit foundation aimed at increasing learning and playing opportunities for youth golfers. Based out of Greensboro, North Carolina, the PKBGT offers low cost, nationally ranked girls’ golf tournaments designed to prepare junior girls’ golfers for high school and collegiate golf. The PKBGT is the nation’s largest “girls’ only” junior tour with over 330 members in 2012, 137 alumni in the collegiate ranks and 29 National Letter of Intent signees for fall 2013.
